MOBILE, Ala.
– Led by junior Tuki Jacobs, the No. 74 University of South Alabama men's tennis team extended their winning streak to four by defeating Jackson State 7-0 Friday morning and Jacksonville State 6-1 in the afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

"A guy like Jacobs, who played No. 1 this morning and No. 2 this afternoon, coming out of the day 2-0 without dropping a set is great." USA head coach Nick Brochu said.

The Jaguars improved to 4-1 with Friday's wins.

"We wanted to be loud but at the same time be focused," Brochu said. "We wanted to make sure we had high energy between points. We had to make sure that we played seriously and took advantage of the first opportunities to take the lead early."

The Jaguars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead against Jackson State after taking the doubles point. Jacobs and Juan Troglia beat Frederico Mendieta Ruiz and Ryan Swanier 6-2 at No. 2, and Tim Srkala and Lucas Gonzalez won 6-2 against Richie Agarwal and Styliouos Guontsaris at No. 3.

The singles event began with a 6-2, 6-0 win from Gonzalez over Miguel Gomez Martin at No. 4, and Troglia defeated Vishu Prasad 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. Jacobs clinched the win for the Jaguars with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Camilo Patino at No. 1.

USA finished the match with wins from Srkala, Oliver Gingras, and Gerhard Gruindelingh. At No. 2, Srkala won a close 7-5, 6-7, 7-5 decision against Frederico Buscarino, Gringas defeated Mendieta Ruiz 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5, and Gruindelingh beat Hernan Geria 6-3, 6-0.

"This morning we were working on character on the court," said Brochu. "I think this morning was good practice, and it's going to be even harder on Sunday, so we've got to keep on practicing."

Against Jacksonville State, the doubles portion began with a 6-4 win from Srkala and Pierre Noyon over Jaryd Reese and Vinicio Hadlich at No. 2. To take the doubles point, Gruindelingh and Gingras beat Mathias Chaim and Pedro Wagner 6-4 at No. 1.

In singles, Noyon defeated Reese 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, and Jacobs won 6-3, 6-3 over Chaim at No. 2 to give the Jaguars an early 3-0 lead. Srkala sealed the victory for USA by winning 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) against Wagner at No. 1.

At No. 4, Gonzalez defeated Hadlich 6-2, 6-4, and at No. 6, Gruindelingh came back to beat Andres Gomez 4-6, 6-2, 10-4. Finally, Gingras lost 6-4, 6-7, 10-4 to Liu Shao Chun at No. 5.

"We knew that Jacksonville State was going to be a little bit more competitive," Brochu said. "We knew they were going to be louder and very hungry, and they were. Once you give them too many opportunities and let them come back, you're actually playing against a much better team. If you have a chance to close the door early, you've got to do it, and we did it."

The Jaguars return to action Sunday at 10:30 a.m. when they face Stetson in Mobile.
