MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama football program is slated to return to Tennessee with the announcement Monday that the two schools have signed a contract to meet again during the 2021 season.
The Jaguars and Volunteers are scheduled to play a contest in Knoxville on Sept. 18 that fall, the second meeting in the series between two schools. Â In 2013, the Vols built a 31-7 advantage early in the third quarter before seeing USA rally to within a score; the final was 31-24 after UT stopped a 16-play Jag drive inside the 10-yard line with an interception on fourth down and less than two minutes remaining in regulation.
Through seven seasons of competition, USA has played four games against Southeastern Conference schools, having taken on Mississippi State twice while also facing South Carolina.  The Jags are scheduled to play a pair of league schools — MSU and Louisiana State — next year, and will also visit Mississippi in the 2017 opener.
During the 2021 season, the Jaguars are set to begin the campaign in Mobile against Southern Mississippi before a trip to Bowling Green prior to facing the Volunteers.
