MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama assistant softball coach Rachele Fico and former Jaguar Hannah Campbell, now a graduate assistant at USA, are competing with the Akron Racers of National Pro Fastpitch this summer.
Akron is currently third in NPF standings with a 12-12 record behind the league-leading Chicago Bandits (17-6) and runner-up USSSA Pride. The Racers have won eight of their last 12 games.
Fico is 1-0 in the circle in her only appearance this year, a start versus the Dallas Charge on July 1 in which she struck out four to one walk while allowing one run (earned) on four hits in a complete-game effort. The Racers won that game, 9-1, marking their largest margin of victory this season.
Campbell is 0-2 with six strikeouts and a 6.24 ERA in four appearances, having allowed 11 runs (all earned) on 18 hits in 12 1/3 innings pitched. The Satsuma, Ala., native's first appearance came on May 30 in Akron's season-opener versus the Pennsylvania Rebellion when she entered a scoreless contest in the fifth inning but was chased after giving up five runs (earned) on three hits in 2/3 of an inning. Akron tacked on three runs in the top of the sixth inning but eventually fell, 6-3.
Fico finished the 2014 NPF season with an 11-7 record, a 3.59 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 23 appearances. Campbell was 5-6 with a 5.78 ERA and a team-high three saves in 23 appearances.
CBS Sports Network has delivered an unprecedented amount of coverage for the NPF during the 2015 season and will continue to do so until the end of the campaign, which concludes with the NPF Championship at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Ala., on August 14-18. Prior to the championship, fans can watch the Akron Racers host the Rebellion on Aug 10-11 on CBS Sports Network.
