MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama softball returns to Sun Belt Conference play this weekend when it hosts league newcomer Appalachian State for a three-game set on Saturday and Sunday at Jaguar Field

Saturday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 11 a.m. with Sunday's finale set for 1 p.m.

USA (18-6, 2-3 SBC) enters the weekend on the heels of a 9-1, run-rule victory over Conference USA opponent Southern Mississippi in the midweek on Wednesday in Mobile. In the contest, South Alabama outhit the Golden Eagles, 12-2, as all but one Jaguar starter recorded a hit, and senior Farish Beard struck out six to one walk in her second appearance since Feb. 7.

Last weekend, the Jaguars split a league doubleheader with Louisiana-Monroe by taking game two, 2-0, behind solo home runs from junior center fielder Stephanie Pilkington and senior shortstop Kaitlyn Griffith.

A week before, USA claimed an 8-5 series-finale victory over No. 7 Louisiana-Lafayette after dropping a doubleheader the previous day.

The Jaguars are currently sixth in SBC standings with two wins in five league contests. Appalachian State is currently eighth out of the league's nine after being swept by Louisiana-Monroe and Troy. The Mountaineers joined the SBC from the Southern Conference.
