Miscellaneous Notes
- South Alabama will look to replace the production of all-conference performer Breanna Hall, who ranked sixth in the Sun Belt in scoring with 15.4 points per game.
- The Jaguars welcome four freshmen either true or redshirt out on the perimeter.
- Marquita Daniels is the top returning scorer for the Jaguars as she averaged 10.4 ppg a year ago.  She also ed the team in assists (47) and steals (53).
- Daniels was the first Jag since Phyllis Kelley (1995-96) to record three or more 30-point outings in the same season.

Head Coach Terry Fowler
-On replacing the production of Breanna Hall at the position: "It's probably going to be two or three players that we look to to replace Breanna's production.  If you look at the stats from the end of the season, Marquita Daniels was averaging around 12-13 points per game in her last three or four ball games.  If she can stay around that pace, that will help us.  Genesis Perrymond has really put in work over the summer.   The redshirt year for her was a big benefit for her.  She's gotten stronger and she's a smart young lady.  She has a good understanding of the game.  I think she is going to be one of the people who contributes to fill that void.  Colby Davis is also playing pretty well right now.  She's probably back to the level she was at during her freshman year prior to her injury.  If those three players do what we know they are capable of doing that will help replace Breanna Hall's production."

-On who he sees as being the leader of this group: "You know, it's hard to say because this is a young group.  Juliann Miller has done an outstanding job out there.  As I've already mentioned, Genesis and Colby have both done good work out there for us.  Colby has been committed to transforming her body and upping her conditioning level.  I can see it be a leadership by committee rather than one person."

-On what he feels Marquita Daniels needs to do to take the next step in the development of her game and improve on her impressive freshman campaign: "The first thing is that she has to handle the ball better.  She has to cut down on her turnovers.  The play of Genesis Perrymond has been able to play the point guard spot, which has allowed us to move Marquita off the ball more than last year.  Marquita just has to take care of the ball better and be more disciplined on the defensive end of the floor.  As a coach though, you see a player able to make plays and you don't want to hold them back so much.  If she can just rein it in just a little bit, I think that will be big for her.  She's also added some facets to her game in the offseason. She's really shooting the ball well right now.  She's worked on that element during the offseason.  She seems to be more efficient.  In her big games last year, she didn't take a lot of shots.  She was an efficient scorer in those games."

-On the progression of Colby Davis and how has she improved during the offseason from last season: "With Colby, her improvement starts with her conditioning.  She's doing the little things to help in that area.  She's worked on her pull-up game.  She's also better at shooting the three.  Her overall decision making has been better as well.  She's one of the players that we depend on to defend the other team's best perimeter player and we are going to continue to count on her to do that."

-On what this group needs to do to help reduce the turnover problem this team had a year ago: "We are charting our players every day in practice.  We've been at an ok level; we just need to improve at that. For us, it really comes down to just making the easy play.  Looking back at film from last season, there were times everyone was trying to make the big play.  They would get into a crowd and get themselves in trouble, jumping in the air trying to make passes.  We have stressed to them to just make the easy play.  It's similar to a quarterback in football, where it's third down.  It's ok to punt.  For us, it's ok to make the next play and move forward from there.  It comes down to fundamentals.  We've got to pay attention to what we are doing and have disciple to the details that we are teaching."

-On how Candice Williams can help this group get better in practice even though she has to sit out after transferring from James Madison: "Candice is a really good player.  Every day that Marquita Daniels, Colby Davis, Juliann Miller or Genesis Perrymond has to go against her, they are going to get better at both ends of the floor.  Candice just has the ability to make everyone better.  She also gives our young players a piece of mind out there and lets them know that it's going to be ok and settles everybody down."

Junior guard Colby Davis
-On her health going into fall practice: "This season, I can actually say that I feel like I'm 100 percent heading into the start of preseason practices.  My knee is feeling a lot better.  Last year, I was still having some problems with it coming off my freshman year, but I feel really healthy right now and like I'm in great shape."

-On how she feels about the guards and the rest of the team heading into the start of the season: "I feel really good about our team.  I know we have 11 freshman and sophomores, so that makes our team young.  With me being one of the three upper classmen on the team, I feel like we are really helping the freshmen and sophomores, especially the freshmen pick up things.  In practice, we try to help them understand what we are trying to do out there, whether it's trying to get over ball screens or whatever.  They are catching on pretty fast though, so I feel good with where we are at."

-On the responsibility of being one of the players that is looked at as being a leader on the team: "It means a lot to me to be looked at that way on our team.  I know when I was a freshman, I had three upperclassmen that took me under their wing and guided me and helped me learn.  I feel like it is only right for me to do the same for our younger players.  I'm really trying to embrace the leadership role that I have on this team and be that voice for the team this season."

-On how the young players have made the adjustment to the new level of basketball and taken to the upperclassmen's leadership and teaching: "I think they have adjusted well.  They get frustrated in practice sometimes, but I just let them know that it's ok.  I tell them 'I know you are going to get it.  There's a process to it. Try not to get frustrated with learning how to do it.'  They are handling that pretty well.  They are catching on pretty fast and I'm impressed with that."

-On what players at the guard position have stood out to her during the early part of practice: "I would definitely say that Marquita (Daniels) has stood out.  Her quickness and ability to come off ball screens is really going to help us, like it did last season.  Genesis (Perrymond) is another person that has stood out.  She is really shooting the ball really well and has played some at the point guard position for us, which she has done well at.  You also have our freshmen D'Andra Pringle, Alyese Givens and Rehema (Franklin) who have done well also.  Sometimes you can tell that they are just thinking about everything too much.  I just tell them to remember that they are here for a reason and just play their game."
