NEW ORLEANS – Behind two shutout victories, University of South Alabama senior
Nini Rabsatt-Smith has been voted the Sun Belt Conference Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.
The Montgomery, Ala. native earns the award for the first time this season and the third time in her career.
Rabsatt-Smith played all 180 minutes in the team's first back-to-back shutouts since August, and scored the game-winning goal in the Jaguars' 1-0 win at Georgia State.
The goal – her second of the season and first match-winner – came at 79:42 on a header from a corner kick to extend the team's win streak to seven games.
She played a key role in holding Georgia State to just seven shots total – three on goal – and Georgia Southern to five attempts on net in 14 shots. The two clean sheets are South Alabama's sixth and seventh of the year.
Rabsatt-Smith will be one of four honored on the Jaguars' Senior Day festivities Sunday afternoon against Arkansas State. USA's next game will be Friday night at 7 p.m. against Little Rock.
