TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of South Alabama men's tennis senior Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany) went 4-0 on the weekend to claim the singles flight one title Sunday at the Crimson Tide Four-in-the-Fall tournament.

Leitner, ranked No. 115, defeated Josh Yablon of Princeton 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3 in the championship round.

"It was great to see Daniel win the title after pulling three big wins in three sets this weekend," said USA head coach Nick Brochu. "He demonstrated so much composure on the court. Daniel remains undefeated in singles after two tournaments and that is very impressive."

South Alabama went 16-5 in the tournament overall, with 11 singles wins and five doubles victories, including a doubles title.

"What a great tournament we had," said Brochu. "These are the best results we have had in years."

Sophomore Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia) earned his only loss of the weekend to Nikko Madregallejo of Alabama 6-1, 6-1 in the flight two championship.

"Tuki had an excellent tournament, but he ran out of steam in the final," said Brochu. "He played for about six hours yesterday. I am very proud of our young sophomore."

Juniors Juan Troglia (Mendoza, Argentina) and Gerhard Gruindelingh (Pretoria, South Africa) each picked up a win in the flight three consolation round. Troglia dropped Liam Sullivan of Samford 7-5, 6-0, while Gruindelingh defeated Nicolas Montoya of Notre Dame 7-6 (7-0), 6-3.

"Gerhard and Juan also posted some good wins," said Brochu. "Playing seven matches in three days is really hard. We are in good shape and everyone fought really well all weekend."

The Jaguars are back in action Oct. 16-19 in Auburn, Ala. for the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships.
