SOCCER TAKES OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE SUN BELT WEEKLY AWARDS

NEW ORLEANS – For the second time this season, the University of South Alabama soccer program has swept the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week awards after freshman Chardé Hannah and sophomore Sarah Hay claimed the weekly honor Tuesday.

Hannah earns the honor for the second consecutive week while Hay is named for the first time in her career.

The pair guided the Jaguars to a 2-0 record last weekend and the team has won six straight wins overall.

Hannah, a native of Tupelo, Miss., tied a school record with four goals and added an assist in the Jags' 5-0 victory over Francis Marion. Her nine points rank in a tie for third in school history and it's USA's first four-goal performance since 2008.

She ranks second in the nation in points per match (2.6), fourth in goals per match (1.1) and 11th in game-winning goals (3). Hannah's prolific scoring record has helped the team place sixth in Division I in scoring (3.70).

USA is getting it done on the other end of the field thanks to Hay, who made 11 saves in the Jags' two shutout victories. She stopped five shots in the 1-0 blanking of North Florida and had six saves against Francis Marion while facing 17 total shots in the two matches.

The Waxahachie, Texas product has five shutouts in six appearances this season to go along with a 0.32 goals against average. Her GAA is 10th in the nation while her save percentage (.939) is third-best.

South Alabama opens conference play Friday night at 7 p.m. against Troy at The Cage.
