MINNEAPOLIS – On Tuesday, University of South Alabama spring signee and incoming freshman Emma Anderson helped her Wave 18 Brent club team capture the silver medal in the 18 Open bracket at the 35th Annual USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championship held at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Over the course of four days, Anderson and her teammates posted an 8-2 record and won 17 of 24 sets. Anderson's bracket featured one of the toughest fields at the event as 32 of the top club teams in the nation competed in the division.
Anderson's Wave 18 Brent team earned a berth in the 18 Open finals after defeating A5 Mizuno 18-1 with a straight-set decision in the semifinals. In the championship match, Anderson and her teammates opened up with a 25-15 victory, but dropped the next two sets to Coast 18 MIZUNO Ozhan.
Anderson's club team's performance marks the second consecutive summer in which a Jaguar signee has finished well at the national event. Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Abby Baker helped guide her Tsunami 18-Val club team to a perfect 11-0 record at the tournament last summer and win the National Division Gold National Championship in Dallas, Texas.
Fellow sophomores Mallory Moore and Symone Stephenson also competed in the event last summer.
