MOBILE, Ala. – No. 21 University of South Alabama softball wraps up the 2014 regular season campaign this Saturday when it welcomes Troy for a doubleheader to conclude a Sun Belt Conference series that began on March 26. USA won game one, 9-1.

Saturday will also be Senior Day, as the program will be recognizing Hannah Campbell and Julie Moss for their accomplishments ahead of their graduation later this month. Fans are encouraged to wear red to support the seniors and team.
USA (37-10, 14-5 SBC) clinched a two-seed in the upcoming SBC Tournament, scheduled for May 7-10 in Lafayette, La., after sweeping third-place Western Kentucky in Bowling Green last weekend. Louisiana-Lafayette has already clinched the top seed and joins USA in earning an automatic bye to the third round of play at the league finale on Thursday, May 8.
South Alabama's Chloe Rathburn batted .462 (6-for-13) in four games last week with six RBI and three runs scored. Rathburn drove in USA's only run against LSU, plated the game-winning run in game one versus Western Kentucky, smacked a two-run shot in game two against WKU and accounted for three runs in the finale. For the second week in row, the Jaguar pitching staff owns the NCAA's second-best ERA, entering this week with a 1.25, led by the nation's fourth-best in the category, Hannah Campbell, owner of a 0.98. Her counterpart, Farish Beard, led the country in ERA for four straight weeks and has since fallen to fifth (0.99 ERA).
USA is 15-1 at home this year.
The Trojans are 4-12 in SBC play, seventh in the standings, ahead of newcomer UT-Arlignton, but the Trojans took games two and three at home against Texas State last weekend en route to claiming their first league series after being swept in three of five.
The pair of wins over the Bobcats improved Troy's home record to 7-9-1, the Trojan Softball Complex playing host to the last encounter of this weekend's teams. USA took that contest, 9-1, moving to 4-0 in league play then.
USA held Troy's hottest hitter, Ebony Wright, to an 0-for-3 performance in the last meeting. Wright still leads the Trojans with a .331 average. She also leads in runs (19), hits (45) and stolen bases (14-15). Erica Davis provided a sacrifice fly to score Kacie McAllister for the Trojan's only run against USA in March.
Troy starter Jaycee Affeldt took that loss afetr giving up four runs (all earned) on a single USA hit. Affeldt struck out nine, but walked five with a wild pitch before being pulled after 4 2/3 in favor of Rachel Rigny, who fared no better after giving up five runs (all earned) on eight Jaguar hits.
Affeldt is now 8-18 on the year with a 2.72 ERA, second-best on the club, with a team-leading 163 strikeouts in 159 2/3 innings pitched. She leads Sara Mock (4-4; 2.97 ERA) in appearances by 10 with 34. Ashley Rainey has appeared 19 times with an 8-5 record and team-low 2.67 ERA to show.
Troy has been outscored this year, 76-29, and outhit, 112-80, in 16 conference games this year. The Trojans have won only one of eight league road fixtures.
