MOBILE, Ala. – No. 21/22 University of South Alabama softball opens the 2014 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional with No. 24 USC Upstate on Friday at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN3 at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
No. 2 Alabama hosts its 10
th-straight regional tournament and opens with SIU-Edwardsville at 6 p.m. on Friday.

USA (40-12) will face USC Upstate, located in Spartanburg, S.C., for the first time. Upstate is 45-7 on the year and has been ranked in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 polls for the least six weeks and seven weeks total during 2014, both program records. The Spartans were eliminated by Florida Gulf Coast in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament.
South Alabama makes its third regional tournament appearance in as many years this weekend. USA reached the finals of each regional it has participated in, including the 2012 Tuscaloosa Regional and 2013 Mobile Regional.
In 2012, The Jaguars bookended a 5-2 loss to Alabama in game two with wins over Georgia Tech by a combined score of 14-4, before falling to the Tide, 6-0.
Last year, USA hosted its first-ever regional and advanced to the final versus No. 19 Florida State, defeating Mississippi State in an elimination game and forcing an if-necessary game three with the Seminoles, ultimately losing, 8-7, in eight innings.
