MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama women's soccer signees
Grete-Lilijane Küppas and
Tiina Trutsi have been called up by the Estonia Women's National Team for its FIFA World Cup qualification match on April 26.
The World Cup will take place June 6-July 5, 2015 in Canada.
"It is a massive honor for both girls to represent their country," USA head coach
Graham Winkworth said. "The World Cup is the biggest sporting event there is and so to have the opportunity to play in qualifiers is huge. I want to wish them the best of luck and hopefully they will get the right result."
Estonia has three points through three matches in UEFA Group 2 and will face the Czech Republic, one spot ahead of Estonia with four points in four matches, on Saturday.
Trutsi, who plays for the club team FC Flora Tallinn, has 15 international caps and was named the 2012 Estonian Female Young Player of the Year. Küppas has six caps and plays for Tammeka Tartu.
"We are excited that they are joining our program," Winkworth added. "They are both very humble young ladies and will fit into what is a very talented squad perfectly."
South Alabama went 14-6-1 last year and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
