USA 9, New Mexico 0 (5 inn.)
South Alabama scored a run apiece in the second and fourth innings before blowing the game open with a seven-run fifth inning. Rathburn's solo homer gave USA an early lead, and Amanda Herron supplied an RBI double in the fourth to score Griffith and double the Jaguar advantage.
Beard allowed only two Lobo runners to reach before USA put up seven runs in the final inning, beginning with Messer's leadoff single and advancement to second on Stephanie Pilkington's sacrifice bunt. Blair Johnson drove Messer in with a single, and Griffith followed a Rathburn strikeout with a two-out double to score Johnson and Minahan, who walked, for a 5-0 USA lead.
Breeden then singled to score Griffith for another run before New Mexico exchanged starter Carrie Sheehan for reliever Tess McPherson, who fared little better.
With the bases loaded upon her entry, McPherson walked Messer, batting a second time in the same frame, to send runners around for a 7-0 USA lead, and Pilkington reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Taylor Rodgers and Herron to round home for a 9-0 lead.
Beard retired the final three Lobo batters to secure the win, USA's fifth by way of run-rule this year.
Sheehan took the loss for UNM, falling to 3-7 on the year after giving up nine runs (six earned) and seven hits, while striking out six.
USA 5, Oklahoma State 1
The Jaguars again took a lead in the second inning versus the host-Cowgirls when Herron drove in her second and third runs on the day on a single off the glove of OSU shortstop Gessenia DeLaCruz, scoring Rathburn and Griffith, who led off the frame with back-to-back singles.
Campbell retired 12 of the next 15 OSU batters before USA added three runs to its total in the top of the sixth. After Amanda Minahan reached on a fielding error and Griffith was hit by another pitch, Breeden drove a two-out, three RBI homer over the wall in left field to extend USA's lead to five unanswered runs.
OSU loaded the bases a half-inning later when Campbell allowed three straight singles, but the senior worked her way out of the jam by striking a batter out, forcing an out at home plate and then forcing a groundout to third.
The Cowgirls scratched a run across in the final frame when Ari Morrison singled to score Shianne Hughes, pinch-running for Dre McKee who, earlier in the inning, doubled down the right field line. Campbell ended the game with her 10
th strikeout of the day.
