Game Notes
MOBILE, Ala. – No. 19 University of South Alabama softball heads to Birmingham on Wednesday to face the UAB Blazers at UAB Softball Complex at 4 p.m.
The contest marks the first of six this week for the Jaguars (6-1), who will next travel to Orlando, Fla., for five games at the Diamond 9 Classic, held at Walt Disney's Wide World of Sports.
USA recently split two games at the 2014 Tiger Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., dropping its first contest of the year, 2-1, to Northwestern before climbing back Saturday afternoon to defeat No. 21 LSU.
Wednesday's clash marks the second between USA and UAB, the Jaguars opening the 2014 campaign with a victory over the Blazers in the first game of the 2014 Mardi Gras Invitational in Mobile, Ala. USA defeated the then-No. 21 Blazers, 8-0, in run-rule fashion to kick off a five-game, season-opening streak, the best start in program history.
Since, UAB has recorded a 3-6 record, recently going 2-3 at Baylor's Getterman Classic in Waco, Texas, where wins over Drake and Iowa were bookended by losses to No. 18 Missouri and the No. 14 Bears.
South Alabama is 8-2 all-time versus UAB and has won the past five meetings. UAB was 18-3 at home a year ago, one of those losses coming to USA in the form of an 8-2 defeat at the 2013 Magic City Classic, jointly hosted by the Blazers and Samford.
