QUICK TURNAROUND FOR THE JAGUAR WOMEN AS THEY HOST MOBILE WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Game 2 - vs. Mobile Game Notes (.pdf)

MOBILE, Ala. – After opening the 2014-15 season on Monday, the University of South Alabama women's basketball team will have a quick turnaround as it continue its current five-game home stand on Wednesday when it host the University of Mobile.  Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. versus the Lady Rams at the Mitchell Center.

"Mobile is very athletic and they are big in the post as well," South Alabama head coach Terry Fowler said.  "They're going to get after us.  They are a scrappy team.  With the quick turnaround for us, it's going to be a little difficult for us to prepare for their offense.  The run a motion offense with some flex elements.  They're going to give us their best shot.  We're going to have to make some quick adjustments and corrections to our game, and be ready to play."

Live stats and web streaming of the contest versus Mobile can be accessed at www.USAJaguars.com.

South Alabama (0-1) enters Wednesday night's contest versus the Lady Rams after dropping its season opener, 64-53 to Southern Miss.  USA couldn't overcome 29 turnovers – 19 in the first half – and a 12-plus minute stretch in which it recorded just one made field goal.

Despite the turnovers during the first 20 minutes of action, the Jaguars only trailed by three at the break, thanks in large part to strong first-half shooting.  USA connected on 11 of its 21 attempts for 52.4 percent.

South Alabama trailed by as much as 18 in the second half, but made a late charge to cut the deficit in half, using a 9-0 run with just under two minutes remaining.  The Jags could get no closer though.

Senior guard Breanna Hall recorded 10 of her team-high 16 points in the opening frame and began the game by hitting her first five shot attempts.

JUCO transfer Amber Yelding and freshman post player Chyna Ellis came off the bench to record eight points apiece in the loss.  Yelding also led the Jags with four steals, while Ellis grabbed five rebounds and had a block.

Simonne Potts also chipped in with six points and six rebounds, but was plagued by foul trouble for most of the first half.

Along with the turnovers, South Alabama struggled from the arc, connecting on just three of its 13 long-range attempts for 23.1 percent.  Last season, the Jaguars led the Sun Belt in three-point shooting (.354) and tied with Troy for top honors in treys per game with 6.5.  USA's three-point percentage ranked 38th nationally.

A year after recording 23 wins, a Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament, Mobile (1-1) entered the season ranked 22nd in the nation.  The Lady Rams have split their first two games of the '14-15 campaign, defeating Selma 82-54 in their home opener, but falling on the road to 18th-ranked Xavier (La.), 71-66.

Last Friday, UM also lost an exhibition contest at Southern in Baton Rouge, La.  The Jaguars picked up an 84-51 victory over Mobile in that outing, holding the Lady Rams to just 28 percent shooting and just a 1-for-10 performance from the arc.  Southern also forced Mobile into 22 turnovers and led by 20 at the break en route to the victory.

Taneequa Myers led the Lady Rams with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds. Jammieca Hudson also ended the night in double figures with 10 points.

On the season, Hudson paces the club offensively with 19.0 points per game.  In her one official outing this season, Hudson was 6-of-9 from the floor.  She is second on the team in rebounding with 7.0 per game.

Molly Speed and Kali Koenig also enter Wednesday night's match up averaging double digits as each are registering 13.0 points per outing.  Speed is the Lady Rams' top threat from the outside as she has seven treys and a .389 percentage from beyond the three-point line.  Koenig also has four steals and is shooting .478 from the field.

Kierra Anderson paces Mobile on the glass with 8.0 per game.  As a team, UM is averaging 45.5 rebounds per contest.
