BRIDGE NAMED SBC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama football quarterback Brandon Bridge has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.

Bridge had a hand in all three touchdowns in Saturday's win over Georgia State while accounting for 263 yards of total offense, including 137 rushing – a game record for a USA quarterback – to help lead the Jaguars to a come-from-behind win.

He played a key role in the Jags' final scoring drive, opening the three-play, 85-yard march with a career-long 65-yard dash before finding Danny Woodson II for the game-winning 18-yard touchdown pass with just over four minutes left in the contest. It was actually the third-highest individual rushing total against an NCAA Division I opponent in the school's record books – Kendall Houston's all-time mark of 175 also came against GSU in the first-ever meeting between the two programs – and the most a Jaguar has posted in a Sun Belt contest.

Through six games this season, Bridge is 94-of-183 passing for 1,174 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also added 294 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 68 attempts, and leads a Jaguar offense that is averaging more than 405 total yards per game.

Bridge, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound senior from Mississauga, Ontario, is the first Jaguar to earn SBC-Player-of-the-Week honors since Jay Jones received the award Dec. 9 last season and the first Jag quarterback to earn the distinction since Ross Metheny on Sept. 9 of last year.
