Men's Golf

ON THE ROAD WITH … BLAKE KELLEY

Blake Kelley
Beginning Tuesday, a member of the University of South Alabama men’s golf team will write each day about his and the team’s experiences at the NCAA Southeast Regional this week.  The Jaguars travelled to Baton Rouge, La., Tuesday, playing a practice round Wednesday before competing in three rounds from Thursday-Saturday.

Blake Kelley, a redshirt junior who calls Mandeville, La., home, filed Friday’s report after the Jaguars completed second-round action.

Our morning began with a 6:15 wake up call.  After walking down stairs to indulge in some of the Hyatt’s finest caffeinated coffee, we boarded the bus at 7 o’clock and made our way over to IHOP for a quick breakfast.  It was an interesting breakfast to say the least.  We heard all about Lane’s fascinating dreams.

We arrived to the course at 8 o’clock to prepare for the grind.  Burls was the first off at 9:10.  We were blessed with another day of great weather, with a high of 84.  The course was playing even more firm and fast and there were some testy pin positions out there again.  Overall, we had another pretty solid day, leaving us in a good position for tomorrow.  As soon as Lane signed his card, coach gathered us up for a few inspirational words before we sat down for lunch.  When we finished eating we practiced for about an hour as we always do to make sure we are comfortable heading into tomorrow.

We just returned from dinner Mi Padres Mexican grill with all of our die-hard fans (our parents).  18 holes left to play one shot at a time, and we are playing with Alabama and Florida again.  We are all fired up for this great opportunity.
