VAEZZADEH VICTORIOUS ON DAY THREE OF CLAY COURT INVITATIONAL

ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior Shayann Vaezzadeh (Bavent, France) picked up a singles win in the consolation round for the University of South Alabama men's tennis team at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational Saturday.

Vaezzadeh outlasted Kento Tanka-Tamaki of Pepperdine 3-6, 6-4, (10-8).

"It was good to see Shayann pull out a big win against Pepperdine," said USA head coach Nick Brochu. "He fought hard and came back, even with a bad foot injury. That was probably his best match of the fall season."

In other singles action, Eric Schnurrenberger of Notre Dame edged junior Manuel Belda (Posadas, Misiones, Argentina) 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, (10-4) and freshman Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia) fell 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, (12-10) to Jack Findel-Hawkins of North Florida.

"We competed so well again today," said Brochu. "This tournament is the best we have performed this semester. All the guys have played hard and got some good wins. It is excellent to finish around .500 in a tournament of this level, with teams like Florida, USC, Notre Dame, Florida State and many other ranked teams. Of course, we are disappointed with some matches because we came so close to winning."

Jaguars' duo of junior Daniel Leiter (Niederfischbach, Germany) and Belda lost 8-6 to Sunay Bhat and Colton Norton of Tennessee.

"Overall, we were able to win most of our breakers," said Brochu. "Today we won three out of five. We played better and better in every tournament this fall. The progression was good and we look forward to the spring season."
