MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama softball team returns home after nearly a month on the road to take on Southeastern Louisiana on March 7, at 6 p.m. at Jaguar Field.
The Jaguars enter the contest at 10-6 after a 4-1 showing at the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla. this past weekend. USA picked up wins against Ball State (3-0), Lipscomb (9-2), Purdue (7-5) and Georgetown (8-0). The Jags’ only loss of the weekend came when they were edged 2-1 by Illinois State on March 3.
As a team, USA is batting .294. South Alabama is paced at the plate by freshman left fielder Alyssa Linn who leads six Jaguars hitting above .300. Linn is batting .400 overall with 20 hits, including four doubles, 16 runs and has driven in seven. So far this season, Linn has tallied seven multi-hit games.
Senior third baseman Christin Crocker, who is hitting .319, has scored 11 runs off of 15 hits – three doubles and a team-leading three home runs – while tallying a squad-best 13 RBI.
Junior Jessica Dobson (2-0) leads the Jags with a 0.55 ERA. Dobson has thrown 21 strikeouts in 25.1 innings of work. She has also recorded two saves on the season. Sophomore southpaw Hannah Campbell (5-5) has thrown seven complete games for USA and pitched a team-leading 49 strikeouts.
Senior Katy Neal is 3-1 after making six appearances in the circle this year. Neal has allowed only 14 hits in 20 innings of work.
The Jaguars lead the all-time series with SELU 11-1 after defeating the Lady Lions 8-1 earlier this season at the Jacksonville State Invitational.
Southeastern Louisiana is 3-18 on the year with their only wins coming against Northern Illinois (10-2), Southern Miss (3-2) and Alabama State (12-2). Most recently, the Lady Lions fell to Western Carolina 4-5 at the Buzz Classic in Atlanta, Ga. on March 4.
SELU has a .246 batting average collectively with sophomore second baseman Megan McCollum leading the way hitting .340 with 18 hits. Junior outfielder Michelle Duhe paces the team with 22 hits including three triples and a double, while senior catcher Meghan Gomez has notched eight home runs, a double and 19 RBI on the season.
Junior Kenna Terry has spent the most time in the circle for the Lady Lions, and has thrown 29 Ks in 50.2 innings of work. Terry has an earned run average of 5.39 and a 1-7 overall record.
