SKILLMAN, N.J. – After two wins over ranked opponents last weekend, the University of South Alabama men’s tennis team has moved up to No. 42 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released Tuesday.
The huge bump in the polls gives the Jaguars (8-3) their best ranking since a No. 29 showing on Feb. 8, 2008.
Over the weekend the Jags dropped their opening match at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions to Louisiana at Lafayette, ranked No. 57 this week, but rebounded to win their next three, including victories over No. 73 DePaul (4-3) and No. 63 Middle Tennessee (4-2).
USA concluded the weekend with a 5-0 shutout of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, who entered this week’s poll at No. 64.
South Alabama holds the best ranking of three Sun Belt teams. Denver is No. 55, Louisiana at Lafayette is No. 57 and Middle Tennessee holds the No. 71 spot.
Up next for the Jaguars is a home match against Austin Peay Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
