USA WOMEN’S TENNIS TAKES ON HILLSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE SUNDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama will host Hillsborough Community College Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

Sunday will mark the first ever meeting of USA and HCC.

The Jaguars (4-4) enters the weekend after falling 5-2 to No. 60 North Texas and 4-3 to Florida International.

Sophomore Emily Newton (Dothan, Ala.) and freshman Mary Angela Martin (Mobile, Ala.) each went undefeated in singles against UNT and FIU and are 7-0 and 6-0, respectively, in the spring.

USA was swept by North Texas in doubles, but rebounded and took two of three from FIU to win the doubles point.

“We showed some improvement in doubles,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “But we still have a long way to go in singles. We have a lot to do at practice and then tie those lessons into the next couple of weeks.”

The Hawks (2-1) picked up a 5-4 win over St. Petersburg College and will travel to Central Alabama Community College on Friday.

“This weekend we just need to keep on inching ahead,” said Keyser. “We need to work on getting our doubles better and on becoming a more complete team.”
