MEN’S TENNIS WRAPS UP FALL SEASON AT CRIMSON TIDE FALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

MOBILE, Ala. – After completing three tournaments, the University of South Alabama men’s tennis team will conclude their fall campaign in Tuscaloosa at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships.

The Jaguars will be rested after a week off following the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships in Auburn.

“We didn’t have any great results in Auburn so that was a little disappointing,” said USA head coach Nick Brochu. “We were hoping to have a few upsets from the four guys that we took.”

USA picked up three wins on the weekend. Sophomore Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany) claimed the only singles success  for the Jags. He leads the team with six wins and started the fall season with a five-match win streak.

Looking to rebound from Southern Regionals, South Alabama will be sending Leitner, along with senior Alex Bernard (Soisy Sur Seine, France), junior Shayann Vaezzadeh (Bavent, France) and sophomore Blake Gregor (Griffith, New South Wales, Australia) to participate this weekend.

Vaezzadeh and Gregor each have five wins throughout the fall season. Gregor also began the fall season with a four-match win streak.

“This is the last tournament of the fall so we’re looking for some good results,” said Brochu. “We’re going to have Alex return to the lineup. He missed the first three tournaments due to an injury, so I’m looking forward to seeing him compete. We’re trying some different doubles combinations so I’m excited to see how those work out. In singles, Daniel is looking to finish the fall season on a good note. He started very strong and now this is his last chance to really make a statement.”

The event is hosted by the University of Alabama and will take place Nov. 2-4 at the Alabama Tennis Stadium and Alabama Rec Courts.

South Alabama will be one of 12 teams participating in the tournament and will face opponents from Alabama, Auburn, Furman, Jackson State, Middle Tennessee, Samford, Southern Miss, Tennessee Tech, Tulane, UAB and West Alabama.
