JAG BASEBALL SCORES SEASON-HIGH 20 RUNS IN WIN OVER UALR

Nolan Earley went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, five RBI and three runs scored in the Jaguars' 20-7 win over UALR Friday night at Stanky Field.

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball team scored a season-high 20 runs on 19 hits in its 20-7 win over UALR Friday night at Stanky Field.

Six Jaguars recorded multiple hits in the game, while five Jags drove in multiple runs. Nolan Earley and Brent Tanner homered in the game, while Logan Kirkland and Jeff DeBlieux had one triple each. Taylor White recorded three doubles, while Jake Overstreet, Earley, Tanner and Trey Sorrells had one double apiece.

South Alabama (18-16, 6-7 SBC) recorded 11 extra-base hits in the game, led by White who went 4-for-6 with three doubles, three RBI and four runs scored. Earley drove in a career-high five runs, and finished 3-for-4 with a double, home run and three runs scored. Overstreet and DeBlieux recorded two hits and drove in three runs apiece.

The Jaguars scored multiple runs in the first three innings of the game, highlighted by a six-run third inning, in which 10 batters came to the plate. USA scored in the inning on a two-run double by White, an RBI single by Earley, an RBI double by Tanner. DeBlieux also drove in a run in the frame, while the Jags also added a run on a wild pitch.

South Alabama went on to score multiple runs in the sixth and eighth innings, and single runs in the fifth and seventh.

Garrett Harris (4-2) earned the win in eight innings pitched, allowing seven runs on 14 hits while striking out nine and issuing three walks.

UALR right-hander Travis Henke (1-2) suffered the loss in 2 2/3 innings, and allowed 12 runs on 12 hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Jake Rowell went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored to lead UALR at the plate. Nick Rountree homered and drove in two runs, while Niko Navarro added a solo home run.

The Trojans scored multiple runs in the first, third and fifth innings, and added a run in the eighth.

South Alabama fell behind 2-0 after the Trojans scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run single by Parma. But the Jags answered with four runs in the bottom-half of the inning on an RBI double by White, two-run double by Earley and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jordan Patterson.

UALR (15-18, 6-7 SBC) cut the deficit to two runs in the top of the third inning, before South Alabama posted six runs in the third inning. The Jags held a 16-6 lead after six innings, and tacked on four additional runs in their final two at-bats.

With the win, South Alabama improved to 54-9 all-time against UALR and 27-5 all-time against the Trojans at Stanky Field.

The series will continue with game two Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Stanky Field. Jaguar right-hander Dustin Crenshaw (5-1) will square off against Trojan left-hander Ryan Juris.

Kirkland extended his hitting streak to 19 games … White extended his hitting streak to 10 games … Overstreet moved to third all-time in doubles (52), passing former Jaguars I.B. Stacy, Ryan Mulhern and Luis Gonzalez who are tied for fourth on the career list with 51 … Earley drove in a career high five runs … DeBlieux drove in a career high three runs … USA improved to 54-9 all-time against the Trojans, and has now won five consecutive games against UALR.
