USA vs. Radford box score
MOBILE, Ala. – In their first-ever meeting with Radford Tuesday, the University of South Alabama men’s tennis team fell 7-0 at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
“We didn’t play that bad today, but it definitely wasn’t enough to beat Radford,” said USA head coach Nick Brochu. “Radford played really well today. They completely deserved to win. We played well today; we just didn’t play tough at all. We played like a rollercoaster. We would have three really good games and then we’d give away two games. We gave away too many free points and there’s no way you can when a close match when you give away free points. They were tougher than us today and that’s the bottom line.”
The match started with singles play due to the threat of inclement weather.
Jaguar senior Jairo Seur (Amsterdam, Netherlands) dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Paul Boslet on the No. 6 court, followed by junior Christian Kuehne’s (Morbach, Germany) 7-5, 6-1 loss to Igor Ogrizek in the No. 3 position. USA junior Dauw Kruger (Pretoria, South Africa) finished next at No. 4 singles, falling in straight sets to Stijn Meuelemans 6-4, 6-3.
The Hilltoppers’ Ivan Salec clinched the match for Radford with his 7-5, 7-5 victory over junior Romain Bocaert (Lille, France) in the No. 1 flight.
Sophomore Alexandre Bernard (Soisy Sur Seine, France) and junior Hanno Bartsch (Pretoria, South Africa) battled back to win their second sets, but ultimately lost the points to their Radford opponents. On the No. 2 court Bernard fell to Nicholas Sayer 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), (10-8). Bartsch followed with his 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 loss to Thomas Dehaen at No. 5 singles.
