MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men’s tennis team returns to action Tuesday to take on Radford University at 1 p.m. on the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
“We’re still limited in our lineup because of injuries, but we had a week and a half of rest before this match so we got better. It will be great to be back on our home courts tomorrow,” said USA head coach Nick Brochu. “When a team comes to our home courts we try to let them know very early in the match that we’re going to play really hard. It all starts in doubles and this year we’ve done a good job of being aggressive in doubles.”
Tuesday’s match will mark the Jaguars’ first meeting with the Highlanders.
“Tomorrow is the first time we’re going to play Radford,” said Brochu. “We’ve never played them so we don’t really know their style of play, but we do know they’ve been ranked in the past couple of years. They’re definitely a very good team.”
USA enters the match looking to improve its 3-2 record. On Feb. 24, the Jags downed Sun Belt Conference rival Troy 5-2 in Troy, Ala.
South Alabama boasts the No. 17 player in the Southern region, junior Romain Bocaert (Lille, France). Bocaert, the reigning Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, has posted an 8-3 mark overall and a 3-1 mark in dual matches in singles action this season.
He is ranked No. 34 in the country and 4th in the Southern region in doubles with a 10-3 overall record and a 4-1 mark in his spring campaign. The South Alabama duo is also ranked No. 34 in the nation.
The Highlanders (5-3) are coming off of a 6-1 victory over Elon University on March 5. Radford brings five undefeated players to Tuesday’s match. Nicolas Sayer (5-0), Ivan Salec (5-0), Paul Boslet (1-0), Randall Carter (1-0) and Alex Metzner (1-0) have not lost a singles match in dual play this spring.
Salec and Thomas Dehaen make up Radford’s top doubles pair with a 4-1 record at No. 1 doubles.
