TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of South Alabama’s men’s tennis team went undefeated in singles and freshman
Blake Gregor (Griffith, New South Wales, Australia) earned a spot in the finals on Saturday at the Seminole Invitational.
Gregor won his matches in the quarterfinals and semifinals today. He will compete against
Brian Alden of Florida State at 9:30 a.m. Sunday for the Seminole Invitational singles ‘B’ draw championship.
Gregor defeated
Timo Kranz of North Florida 6-2, 6-1 and
Jovan Keljovic of Southern Miss 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
“Blake is doing very well and has the heart of a champion,” said USA assistant coach
Wade Ward. “I am looking forward to seeing him play tomorrow. He’s the smallest guy but the toughest player.”
In the singles ‘A’ draw consolation rounds, junior
Alex Bernard (Soisy Sur Seine, France) won 6-4, 7-5 over
Lance Lvovsky of Florida Gulf Coast, while freshman
Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany) beat
Jackson Moore of Florida Gulf Coast 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, (10-7).
“Today was a great day for the Jags,” said Ward. “Everyone played well and supported each other. The team atmosphere is great.”
South Alabama competed against teams from North Florida in doubles matches today.
Senior
Christian Kuehne (Morbach, Germany) and partner Leiner fell 8-6 to
Daniel Sotomarino and
Leonardo Nahar, while Bernard and Gregor also lost 8-5 to
Julian Belair and
Beau Treyz.
The final day of the tournament starts Sunday.
