WOMEN’S GOLF RELEASES FALL SCHEDULE

University of South Alabama women's golf will compete in four tournaments this fall, three of which are hosted by Sun Belt Conference schools.

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama women’s golf will participate in four tournaments this fall, as announced Thursday by head coach T.J. Jackson.

Three of the four tournaments are hosted by Sun Belt Conference schools, with two of the four taking place in south Florida. Tournaments hosted by Arkansas State, Florida International and Louisiana-Monroe will provide an opportunity to get a first-hand look at some of this year’s competitors from around the league.

The Lady Jaguars will open their fall schedule at the ULM Fred Marx Invitational at the Bayou DeSiard Country Club in Monroe, La., Sept. 27-28, followed by the 2010 USF-Waterlefe Invitational, hosted by South Florida, on Oct. 4-5 at the Waterlefe Golf and River Club in Bradenton, Fla.

“It’s always good to play against conference schools,” Jackson said. “It gets us familiar with who we’re playing in the conference.  We’ll see a majority of the Sun Belt schools in the fall. We’ll have about a month of practice before we play in our first tournament. It is a good tournament, and  will be a good starting point for us to see how we look going into the season.”

“The USF tournament may be one of the best fields we play. We’re going to see two really strong fields this fall, and that’s one of them. South Florida is a solid team with a good venue, and they run a good tournament so they attract good teams.”

USA will return to the Jonesboro Country Club in Jonesboro, Ark., to take part in the 2010 Lady Red Wolf Classic hosted by Arkansas State, Oct. 11-12. Last season, the Lady Jags recorded their best team finish of the fall at the Lady Red Wolf Classic, finishing third out of 13 teams.

“It is a great golf course, and just a good test of golf to help us prepare in getting better each tournament,” Jackson said of the Jonesboro Country Club. “It’s just an old-style country club that is a very well-established golf course and for that reason, it’s a good test. You have to hit the ball straight and be accurate with your irons.”

The Lady Jaguars will close fall competition at the 33rd Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, Oct. 31-Nov. 2, at the Pelican Preserve Golf Course in Fort Myers, Fla.

“I’m looking for the team to improve each tournament, as well as each individual,” Jackson said of his expectations this fall. “We’re working toward that definition of who our top five will be. It is yet to be determined, but we’ll be working toward that this fall.”
