MOBILE, Ala. – The replacement of the outfield wall, which has been in place for years, is just one of several improvements being made to University of South Alabama baseball’s Stanky Field this offseason.
Workers began tearing down the wall Aug. 11, marking the beginning of a process that will vastly improve the look and feel of the stadium. The construction of a new outfield fence is planned prior to fall practice, along with the installation of a warning track and new bullpens, which will now be located in foul territory down the left and right field lines.
At the conclusion of fall practice, the dugouts will be renovated, along with the installation of a collar around home plate. A decorative windscreen for the outfield fence is also expected to be installed before the beginning of the 2011 season.
“We’re very excited about the renovations that are going to take place,” South Alabama Director of Athletics Dr. Joel Erdmann said. “They will add to an already tremendous facility, and to the enjoyment of our fans.”
A photo gallery which will chornicle the stadium improvements will be continuously updated and can be accessed by clicking here, or through the Stanky Field Renovation link on the baseball page at www.usajaguars.com.
