MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the University of South Alabama Strength and Conditioning program is to minimize the risk of injuries and maximize athletic performance. We provide an educated staff dedicated to developing comprehensive programs that are tailored to each sport and individual to enhance each athlete's capabilities along with their character.
PHILOSOPHY
Power
Power is what separates good athletes from the great, and the great from the legendary. Power is maximized by producing large amounts of force in the shortest amount of time possible. Force is the product of mass and acceleration. Therefore we do not simply move barbells and other weighted resistances, but we move them as fast as possible. This type of training quickly equates to success in every competition.
Speed, Agility, Quickness
An athlete's sport-specific speed is dependent upon their linear speed, lateral speed, and ability to change directions. Optimal training methods are used to develop linear speed, while at the same time emphasizing deceleration and change of direction drills. A quick burst of speed or an athletic change of direction is often the difference between victory and defeat. Jag Power methodology will allow South Alabama athletes to continue to run away from the competition.
Character Development
A complete athlete possesses amazing physical ability, and enriches the lives of all others they come in contact with. Our athletes must learn from the coaching staff, and we from them, so that we all may develop into better men and women of the world. Our true success is in the accomplishments of our athletes at the next level whatever it may be.
Injury Prevention
An injury can destroy an athlete's psyche and possibly their career. Strength and speed means little on the sideline and in the training room. It is therefore of primary importance to incorporate functional pre-habilitation movements into programs to prevent these injuries before they can occur. Stable joints and dynamic flexibility combine to create a strong and durable athlete.
Rest and Recovery
Proper active and passive recovery techniques are integral to an athlete's success. It is during rest periods that an athlete rebuilds the cells and systems of the body and makes positive physiological adaptations. Without adequate rest intervals, a strength and speed program will yield little results. Proper recuperation is essential to ensure that every athlete comes back stronger and faster, day in and day out.
Program Design
Jag Power provides nothing but the best programs for improving speed, strength, and conditioning as fast as possible. Every program is tirelessly designed and implemented to maximize the athletic potential of every athlete in every sport. Our educated staff provides programming based on proven scientific principles to make an athlete stronger and faster than they ever thought possible.
Nutrition
Nutrition is an often overlooked aspect of an athlete's growth and progress. Only through optimal nutrient intake can an athlete maximize their athletic potential, and lead a long and healthy life. Providing the body with the proper fuel in proper intervals will improve body composition, endurance, speed, strength, and recovery. It is easier to outwork an opponent when every system of the body performs with the efficiency of which it is capable.
