MEN’S TENNIS TO COMPETE AT USTA/ITA REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama men’s tennis team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to compete in the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships held Oct. 22-25 at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.

“Regionals is one of our biggest tournaments of the fall. It is the qualifier for the indoor national championship in November,” said USA head coach Nick Brochu. “There are going to be a lot of good teams there. This is a great opportunity for our players to beat some of the top guys in the country. I’m really looking forward to this weekend.”

The Jaguars are vying for a spot at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, held Nov. 4-7 at the USTA-Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

South Alabama will send Parker Allen (Hot Springs, Ark.), Hanno Bartsch (Pretoria, South Africa), Romain Bocaert (Lille, France), Dauw Kruger (Pretoria, South Africa), Christian Kuehne (Morbach, Germany), Jairo Seur (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Lucas Viel (Boussy-Saint-Antoine, France).

Viel and Bocaert are coming off a strong showing at the D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships where the Frenchmen teamed up to reach the semifinal round of the doubles qualifying draw.

“I’m looking forward to Romain and Lucas playing doubles together again,” said Brochu. “They had a great showing at the All-American Championships. They have the potential to earn a national ranking with the way they played in Tulsa. If they can add a couple more victories at regionals it’ll definitely help them.”

Kruger, Bartsch, Allen and Seur combined for eight wins at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta Oct. 2-3.
