MOBILE, Ala. - University of South Alabama soccer dropped its home opener Friday evening, falling to Mississippi State 1-0 at "The Cage." The Bulldogs scored the game's lone goal late in the first half to spoil the Jags' home opener.
MSU's Kat Walsh netted the game-winning goal in the 41st minute of the first half off of a corner kick, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead at halftime. Midfielder Jasmine Simmons assisted on the goal.
Jaguar freshman goalkeeper Cassie Lythjohan shut out the Bulldogs in the second half, and recorded three saves in the contest.
MSU (3-0-0) outshot the Jags 17-4 in the match. With the win, the Bulldogs now lead the all-time series 4-2-0. The Jags fall to 7-8-1 in home openers with the loss.
