SOCCER BATTLES UALR TO 2-2 TIE

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - University of South Alabama soccer battled UALR to a 2-2 tie Sunday afternoon at Burns Park Soccer Complex.

UALR (3-6-1, 0-1-1) took a 2-0 lead into halftime after scoring goals in the first and 36th minutes of the first half.

USA (2-7-1, 0-1-1) cut the UALR lead to 2-1 when Liz Clark scored on an assist from Kristin Sutton in the 82nd minute of the match. The Jags tied the game in the 84th minute on a goal from the right side of the box by Brandi Smith off of an assist from Clark.

"I felt like they dominated the first half, we dominated the second half and overtime was even," USA head coach Mike Varga said. "But I'm proud of our team. They fought hard and played their hearts out in coming back and tying it up on the road."

USA returns to Sun Belt Conference action Fri., Oct. 2, when it hosts Western Kentucky. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at "The Cage."

NOTES:  USA moves to 10-4-1 all-time against UALR with the tie ... The Jags move to 3-2-1 all-time when playing at UALR ... USA snapped a five-game road losing streak with Sunday's tie ... It also marks the Jags' first tie in a road conference game since playing to a 0-0 tie against Denver in 2007.
