JAGUAR SOCCER FALLS TO AUBURN, 3-0

AUBURN, Ala. - University of South Alabama soccer fell to Auburn 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Auburn Soccer Complex.

Auburn (1-0-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Katy Frierson at the 27:09 mark of the first half.

The Tigers doubled their lead early in the second half when Lizzie Hamersly scored on a header off of a corner kick with 43:08 left in the second half.

Auburn rounded out the scoring on a goal from Mary Coffed with 36:29 left in the game.

"It was a tough weekend," USA head coach Mike Varga said. "We played two very good teams this weekend. We competed a lot better in the second half today. We gave away two goals, but after that, we competed better and created some chances the other way. Hopefully, we learned some lessons in playing some very good teams this weekend. Florida State is a potential Final Four team, and Auburn isn't far behind that."

USA (1-2-0) returns to action Friday, Sept. 4, in its home opener against Mississippi State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at "The Cage."

"It will be nice to finally play at home and not on the road," Varga said. "Hopefully, we will learn from our mistakes this weekend, and be ready for two good SEC teams next weekend."
