SOUTH ALABAMA?S SMITH DUO LIFTS JAGUARS OVER NICHOLLS STATE 7-0

MOBILE, Ala. ? University of South Alabama soccer forwards Tiara Smith and Brandi Smith scored a combined seven goals to lift the Jags over Nicholls State 7-0 Saturday at “The Cage” in the South Alabama Soccer Tournament.

 

Junior Tiara Smith netted a hat trick within the first 13 minutes of the first half. She scored the first goal of the game at the 1:01 mark on assists from Liz Clark and Shundel Francis. Smith netted her second goal nearly one minute later at the 2:08 mark on an assist from Clark that found the back right corner of the goal. Smith scored the hat trick at the 12:35 mark on an assist from Clark to give South Alabama a 3-0 lead.

 

Freshman Brandi Smith gave the Jags a 4-0 lead at the 20:36 mark of the first half off of Clark’s fourth assist of the match. She scored her second goal of the contest at the 49:32 mark of the second half when she netted a ricochet off of the NSU goalkeeper. Smith completed her hat trick at the 53:34 mark of the second half on an assist by Amanda Douglas from the left box into the right corner of the goal to give the Jags a 6-0 advantage.

 

Tiara Smith scored her fourth goal of the match at the 57:40 mark of the second half on an assist from Samantha Slover. Smith netted the goal off of a dropped ball from the Colonels’ goalkeeper.

 

USA attempted 15 shots on goal, while NSU attempted three. The Jags out shot the Colonels 23-3 in the contest.

 

With the win, South Alabama improves to 2-5 on the season, while Nicholls State drops to 2-3.

 

The Jags will take to the road for their next match on Friday, Sept. 19, against Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
