in South Alabama’s first two conference games, the senior forward averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, both tops on the club, while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. Shelter returned from the Christmas break, recording 14 points and eight rebounds on a 5-for-10 shooting night the USA’s conference opener at Arkansas State. In Sunday’s SBC home opener versus defending Sun Belt Conference champ Middle Tennessee, Shelter nearly helped lead South Alabama back from a 21-point deficit. Plagued by foul trouble during the first 20 minutes of action, Shelter bounced back in the second half, recording 14 of her 19 points during the final period of play. Coming out of the intermission, Shelter led a 10-0 Jaguar run, as she was responsible for all but one of the points during the scoring spurt. In the second half, the Mobile native was 4-of-7 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. The 19 points carded by Shelter versus the Blue Raiders not only led the team, but tied a season-best for the senior.
