Taylor Ammons made the most for her first two starts of the season, averaging 13.0 ppg and 11.0 rpg, helping the Lady Jags record a 1-1 record against two quality SEC opponents. Ammons began the week with a career-high 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting on the road against Auburn in her first career start. The junior forward also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and posted a block against the Tigers. With USA trailing by 11 at the intermission, Ammons led a 10-0 run to open the second half, recording eight of the team’s points. On Sunday, Ammons followed that performance up with a nine point, 14 rebound effort in South Alabama’s 67-60 win over Ole Miss – the program’s first over an SEC foe since Dec. 30, 2005. The 14 boards were also a new career best for Ammons. Ammons did most of her scoring at the foul line against the Rebels, hitting seven of her 10 attempts at the stripe. She also had an assists and two blocks versus UM. Against the four SEC opponents that USA has faced this season, Ammons has averaged 10.5 ppg and 9.3 rpg, while shooting 47 percent from the floor and 75 percent at the charity stripe.
