Emily Newton earned a pair of victories for the women's tennis team in their season-opening 6-1 win over Southern Miss. She paired with Michaela Meszarosova at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Jaguars, defeating the USM team 8-7 (7-3). Newton made it an undefeated afternoon in straight sets at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Kate Lanier; she has won 19 consecutive singles matches over the last two spring seasons.
