2013: Appeared in 18 matches, earning six starts on the year…Recorded braces against Southern and Alabama A&M, while providing five assists for 13 points, the club’s fourth-most…Her two goals versus Southern were complemented by a pair of assists for a game-high six points in the contest…Came off the bench to deliver an assist versus Mississippi State for USA’s first goal of the year on Aug. 23.

2012: Appeared in 20 games, starting in seven… Scored two goals on the year with one assist for five points… Put 11 of 17 total shots on frame (.647).

High School: Lettered four years in soccer and one year in cross country at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Ala… Was named the Warriors’ team captain as a junior and senior… Led Thompson to a 2011 Southern Shootout title… Was a 2011 state all-star and all-metro honoree… Was an all-metro honorable mention in 2010.

Club: Played club soccer for Birmingham United for four years, Briarwood for two years and the Birmingham Legends for one year… Helped the Birmingham Legends win a Division I state championship in 2011.

Personal: Full name is Alyssa Brooke Mayer… Born July 14, 1994 in Grand Rapids, Mich. … Daughter of Glenn and Karen Mayer… Second oldest of five children (all girls)… Hobbies include running, spending time outside, watching Netflix, going to the beach and singing… Chose South Alabama because of the good medical programs, it’s close to the beach and the Division I soccer program… Favorites – movies: “Hitch,” “Get Smart,” and the Harry Potter series; book: “Jane Eyre”; pro teams: Atlanta Braves and Arsenal; athletes: Carli Lloyd and Michael Bradley; musical artists: John Mayer, Sara Bareilles; foods: macaroni & cheese, Hawaiian rolls and Wild Berry Skittles; classes: anatomy & physiology… Likes the outdoors, Jesus, music, Cherry Coke, dogs and crafts, and dislikes sweet tea and snakes… Likes to be relaxed before a game so she talks to and goofs off with her teammates… Pregame ritual is to say a prayer… Best part of playing sports is the competition and the feeling you get when your team clicks… Did show choir in high school and can play the guitar… Thankful for her family, teammates, the opportunity to pursue higher education and play the game she loves, and God… Celebrities she’d like to meet are Sandra Bullock and Betty White… Goal in five years is to be a board-certified PA, and in 10 years wants to have a family and serve on medical mission trips… Member of FCA, represents soccer on the South Alabama Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is an Upward Basketball coach at Cottage Hill Baptist Church… Three wishes: travel the world, health care coverage for everyone and a lifetime supply of Cherry Coke.
