Berron Tyson

Berron Tyson enters his third season as the women’s basketball and track and field sports performance coach at the University of South Alabama. Tyson develops, implements, and supervises the training regimen for the Jaguars women’s basketball team in the areas of speed, strength, agility, conditioning, and flexibility. He also works collaboratively with sports medicine and performance nutrition.

In the 2023 season, the men’s track and field team won the Outdoor Sun Belt Conference Championship, highlighted by NCAA Discus Champion Francois Prinsloo.

In the 2022 season, the men’s track and field team finished second in the Outdoor Sun Belt Conference Championship, featuring NCAA Pole Vault Champion Kyle Rademeyer.

Tyson came to Mobile after serving as the Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning at Alabama State University. At ASU, Tyson was the sports performance coach for men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and assisted with football. He oversaw intern and graduate assistant personnel and helped coordinate the yearly nutrition and strength and conditioning budgets.

He worked directly with the 2022 Volleyball Regular Season SWAC Champions and the 2022 third-ranked women’s basketball team, assisting Women’s Basketball Player of the Year Ayana Emmanuel.

Prior to ASU, Tyson spent six years as the Director of Strength and Conditioning and Head Track and Field Coach at several high schools in Alabama, while also coaching gymnastics and working in the private sector of strength and conditioning with NFL, NBA, UFC, and Olympic athletes.

A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Tyson received his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from South Alabama in 2017 and is currently working towards his master’s degree. He was a member of the South Alabama football and track and field programs from 2013-2017. Tyson is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He also holds his CPR-AED certification from the American Red Cross and USAW Level 1 certification.

Tyson is the proud husband of Miah Tyson and brother to four siblings, including NBA guard Jaylon Tyson and Arizona State football standout Jordan Tyson.
