Griffin Cheatham

Griffin Cheatham enters his first season as a graduate assistant for South Alabama Women's Basketball.

Cheatham comes to Mobile after spending last season as a volunteer assistant coach at Jones College, where he helped the Bobcats to a runner-up finish in the Region 23 tournament. While in Ellisville, Cheatham helped develop six players who signed to four-year schools following their time at Jones.

Before his time with the Bobcats, Cheatham spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant varsity coach for the boys’ basketball team at Petal High School, where he helped the team set a program record for most wins in a single season with 24. Cheatham also helped coach the Panthers to a regular season district championship, with the team advancing to the Elite 8 of the Class 6A MHSAA Playoffs.

Cheatham spent the 2020-21 season at Presbyterian Christian School, where he served as head middle school and assistant varsity coach for the Bobcats. Under his direction, the varsity squad won over 20 games and had two student-athletes selected to participate in the 2021 MAIS All-Star game.

Cheatham’s first coaching stop was at Taylorsville High School in 2019-20 as an assistant varsity boys’ coach, where he helped the team win the most games in the last seven years.

Jackson and Cheatham crossed paths at South Florida, where Cheatham served as a student manager from June to November 2021.

Cheatham is a 2023 graduate from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he graduated with a Liberal Studies degree and a minor in psychology. He is pursuing a Master’s in Sports Management from South Alabama.
