Biography

Senior Season (2009): Started 54 games in 55 appearances, all in the outfield... finished the season with 42 hits, 25 runs scored, seven doubles, six home runs, 27 RBI, a .460 slugging percentage and a team-high nine stolen bases... in conference games she had a club-best 12 runs scored, four doubles and tied for most RBI with seven... notched a career game high two doubles against Louisiana Monroe (April 5)... had nine multiple hit games, including going 3-for-4 against Mississippi Valley State (March 11) with one run scored, one RBI and two stolen bases... had six multiple RBI games, notching three RBI against Western Kentucky (April 25) in a 2-for-3 performance with a double and one run scored... hit the program’s first home run in post-season play against Western Kentucky (May 6)... finished her career ranked fourth in batting average (.270), second in stolen base percentage (.870), fifth in runs scored (54), fourth in doubles (12), fifth in triples (2), fifth in home runs (8), fifth in sacrifice hits (12), and third in stolen bases (20).

 

Redshirt Season (2008): Missed 2008 season due to a knee injury... named to SBC Commissioner's List... named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete... named to South Alabama President's List.

 

Junior Season (2007): Shared time in the outfield, playing in 53 games with 41 starts... hit .259 with 29 runs on 35 hits... collected five doubles, one triple, two home runs and 11 RBIs... recorded 11 stolen bases in 13 attempts... scored the first run of the softball program against Belmont on Feb. 17.

 

North Florida Community College (2005 and 2006): Named Academic All-American... hit .412 with three home runs as a sophomore, while also recording 16 stolen bases and 12 RBIs... biggest JUCO career highlight was stealing five bases in a game.

 

Dover Bay Secondary School: Played volleyball and field hockey... graduated in the top 10 percent of her class... was named to the Dean's List her junior and senior years.

 

Club: Played club softball with the Island Devils for coach Rick Merrifield for two years... held team's record for most stolen bases... was named team's most valuable player. 

 

Personal: Full name is Kaitlyn Jean Marie Chernomaz... born June 29, 1986 in Nanaimo, British Columbia... daughter of Rich and Sandi Chernomaz... father was a bronze medalist for Team Canada Hockey and played in the NHL for 18 years... aunt, Carrie Chernomaz, played for Team Canada Volleyball... has one younger brother... majoring in Exercise Science.
