Alex Heim is entering his third season with the South Alabama men’s basketball program and his second as Head Manager. Since joining the staff in 2023, Heim has played an integral role in the program’s daily operations, contributing to player development, practice planning, camp preparation, and team logistics.
During the 2024–25 season, Heim was instrumental in the training and development of forward Barry Dunning, who earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors. That same season, South Alabama won its first Sun Belt regular-season championship since 2008, finishing with a 21–11 record—the most wins under head coach Richie Riley and the program’s highest regular-season total in 17 years. The Jaguars notably outperformed expectations after being picked to finish 11th in the preseason coaches poll.
A Mobile native, Heim attended McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, where he was the starting point guard on back-to-back Final Four teams in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, McGill-Toolen set school records for most wins in a season (31) and most points in a game (110).
Heim is currently a junior in the Mitchell College of Business, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing with a concentration in professional sales, and is on track to graduate in spring 2027.
He is the son of Mark and Amy Heim and has two brothers, Michael and Stephen.
