Biography

2012-13: Made 26 stars in 30 appearances… Ranked third on the team in scoring average (10.8), rebounding (6.3) and blocks (27), second in field goals (116) and steals (28) and fourth in 3-pointers… Listed in 21st in the Sun Belt in scoring average, 12th in rebounding average, 14th in field goal percentage (44.6) and 14th in blocks per outing (0.9)… Recorded 18 double-digit scoring games and four double-doubles (both second on the team)… Opened season with two consecutive double-doubles, posting 11 points and 11 rebounds in victory at No. 25/24 Florida State (11/9) before putting up 19 points and 13 boards his next game vs. William Carey (11/14)… Put together three double-digit scoring streaks of four games or more… Set season high in points (21) and new career bests in 3-pointers (five) and blocks (five) in road win at Florida International (12/1)… Converted 7-for-9 from the field and 5-for-7 from long range vs. the Panthers… Final two double-doubles of the season came against Louisiana-Lafayette (1/10 & 2/14), posting 10 points and 11 rebounds in double-overtime victory in Lafayette, and shot 7 of 11 from the floor for 18 points and 11 boards in 22-point win in Mobile… Ten-point performance at ULL was part of five-game stretch with at least 10 points and he added season-best three steals… Ended season with 11-point outing at Tulane, hitting three times from long range and tying career-high four assists.

Personal: Full name is Mychal Lemar Ammons… Born Jan. 2, 1992 in Bethesda, Md. … Son of Tony and Katie Ammons… Majoring in interdisciplinary studies… Youngest of three children… Sister, Taylor Ammons, is a former member of South Alabama’s women’s basketball team (2010-12), and cousin Donyeah Mayfield is current member of women’s team… Chose South Alabama because of his teammates and coach, and he wanted to do something special… Goals for the season are to lead the nation in double-doubles, win the Sun Belt Conference and go to the NCAA Tournament… Favorites – movie: “The Great Debaters”; book; the Bible; pro team: Los Angeles Lakers; athletes: Kobe Bryant; musical artists: Drake, 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar; food: Foosackly’s; class: health… Best part of playing sports to him are the experience and memories… The celebrities he’d like to meet are Morgan Freeman, Kobe Bryant and Denzel Washington… Has played pickup games with Dwight Howard and Josh Smith… Before a game he focuses, listens to music and prays… Plays the guitar in his free time… His goals for five and 10 years from now are making a living doing what he loves.
