Summer Stover

Summer Stover returned to the University of South Alabama Student-Athlete Academic Services staff as Assistant Athletic Director in November 2021.

Stover was first hired at South as an athletic academic counselor in February 2017, with her responsibilities in that role including assisting student-athletes with course and major selections; tracking their academic progress to meet university, Sun Belt Conference and NCAA eligibility standards; and providing updates to athletic department and coaching staff members. Stover also assists in gathering data to be used in the department’s Academic Progress Rate Report, conducts PSA transfer evaluations and previously served as an instructor for the freshman/transfer Life Skills course.

In her role, she coordinates special events for the Student-Athlete Academic Services including the Faculty Guest Coach Program, Scholar-Athlete Academic Breakfast, tutor appreciation events, 3.0 GPA recognition game, the athletic department’s graduation reception ceremony each semester and planning a six-hour orientation program for all freshmen and transfer student-athletes.

Prior to joining Jaguar Athletics, Stover was at Marshall where she was as an academic advisor for the Buck Harless Student-Athlete Program and oversaw the football team.  During her time at Marshall, Stover also worked for the federally fundedTRiO: Heart of Appalachia Talent Search, which helps middle and high school students reach their goal of attending college.

A 2011 graduate of Marshall, Stover earned her degree in sports management and marketing; she added a master’s degree in adult and technical education two years later.  While in school, Stover worked as a student equipment manager for the Thundering Herd football team.  She also served as a graduate assistant in the Registrar’s Office.

Stover is a member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals.
