Kristin Maas

Kristin Maas joined the University of South Alabama Student-Athlete Academic Services staff as associate director in July 2018, and in her role works primarily with the Jaguar men’s basketball and men’s tennis programs.

Maas’ responsibilities at South include providing reports and updating student-athletes, coaches and administrative staff regarding academic status, class and tutor schedules and meeting NCAA eligibility benchmarks, compiling data submitted in athletics’ Academic Progress Rate Report, and serving as the department’s tutor coordinator.  She has organized class climate surveys, developed the Former Student-Athlete Degree Achievement Program to assist former student-athletes interested in returning to USA to complete their undergraduate degree, and served as an instructor in a first-year experience and leadership development course for student-athletes.

In her roles, she serves as the liaison for Student-Athlete Academic Services to the Office of International Admissions and Student Programs, Student Disability Services, the USA Psychological Clinic and Student Academic Misconduct.

Maas came to South from Auburn, where she was an athletics academics counselor for nearly three years working with the Tigers’ football, soccer, softball and gymnastics teams.  Prior to that, she also served as athletics certification officer and transcript evaluator at UA for nearly two years while in between she was the assistant registrar for athletic eligibility at Central Florida during the 2014-15 academic year.

Maas received her undergraduate degree from North Alabama in criminal justice in 2008 after lettering three years for the Lion softball team; she was named first-team all-Gulf South Conference, to the NCAA Division II South Region all-tournament team and Academic All-Gulf South Conference in 2006.  She completed internships in compliance at UNA and North Florida prior to earning her Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2011.

Maas is married to Jaguar assistant football coach Mike Bangtson.  She is a member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals as well as the Alabama State Bar.
