Chase Calcagni

Chase Calcagni enters his second season as the director of player personnel for the University of South Alabama football program.

His responsibilities in the role include coordinating and overseeing recruiting operations including evaluations of future student-athletes and managing all recruiting data bases, services and the program’s recruiting board.  Calcagni also coordinates the team’s walk-on program which includes holding tryouts, plans official and unofficial visits, serves as South’s coordinator for its Pro Day, Rising Seniors Day and Junior Day as well as the coordinator of summer camps and camp sponsorship.  In addition to working as the program’s NFL Liaison, he runs social media accounts — both football and recruiting — while coordinating recruiting graphics, mail outs, and videos.

During the 2017 season, Calcagni was the outside linebackers coach at Armwood (Fla.) High, where he helped the Hawks go 15-1 after advancing to the championship game in the 6A state playoffs.  During the year, AHS was ranked as high as eighth in the country.

Prior to that, he was a graduate assistant coach at Central Arkansas during which time his efforts helped the Bears go 17-7 overall and 15-3 in the Southland Conference.  In Calcagni’s first year on the staff, when he worked with both the defense and special teams, UCA went 7-4 — including posting a 7-2 league mark — while leading the conference in sacks, interceptions, turnover margin and punt return defense.  The following fall, the Bears finished 10-3 highlighted by a first-round victory in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs after ending up 8-1 in the SLC; he worked with both the team’s offensive and defensive units as a total of 12 Bears received all-conference recognition.

In addition to his coaching duties, Calcagni had responsibilities assisting with the program’s academics, recruiting and official visits, and numerous special projects.

His first coaching role was as a graduate assistant at Findlay (Ohio) during the 2014 campaign, where he served as a graduate assistant working with the defense and special teams.  His duties with the program also included recruiting, academics and video.

Calcagni earned his undergraduate degree from Arkansas in kinesiology, P-12 teaching, coaching endorsement, where during his final semester he worked as a volunteer assistant coach and recruiting assistant for the Razorbacks.  He added a master’s degree in school leadership, management and administration from Central Arkansas in 2017.
