Coach Kittrell on Zach Grichor - "Zach Grichor showed very good action in the field. He's got nice hands, he's athletic, he has good speed, and he handled the bat well in the fall. We expect him and O'Reilly to be a solid combination up the middle."

Career Notes:  Tied for third in Sun Belt Conference with six sacrifice flies in 2009 • Also ranked fifth in conference with 174 assists • 15-game hitting streak was longest by any Jag in 2009 • Had only five-hit game by a USA player during 2009 season when he went 5-for-6 on May 9.

2009 (Junior):  Started all 55 of USA's games at second base • Hit .306 with 11 doubles, 33 RBI and 44 runs scored • Tied for team-lead with 22 walks, ranked third in runs and fourth with nine stolen bases • Six sacrifice flies were more than any other Jag • Also committed just eight errors for a .974 fielding percentage • Went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in his first game as a Jag (2/20) • Struggled in next seven games, but rebounded to hit .327 over the remainder of the season • Singled, stole second and came around to score go-ahead run in fifth inning of Jags' win over No. 6 Ole Miss (2/22) • Hit safely in 41 of last 47 contests, and never went hitless in back-to-back games during that stretch • Went 2-for-4, walked and scored three times as Jags completed sweep of Bright House Invitational with win over Stetson (3/1) • That game started a career-best, 15-game hitting streak • Collected a pair of hits and stole a base against sixth-ranked Baylor (3/6) • Went 3-for-6 with a double, three runs and a RBI in Jags' series-opening win over New Orleans (3/20) • Reached base in four of five plate appearances and stole a base in series finale against Privateers (3/22) • Helped USA knock off Mississippi State when he went 3-for-6 with a double, three runs and a RBI (3/24) • Delivered a pair of doubles, three runs and four RBI in win over Southeastern Louisiana (3/25) • Went 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI in win over Auburn (4/14) • Hit first career home run in second game of Jags' sweep of Louisiana-Lafayette (4/18) • Singled three times, walked, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice in USA's win over 22nd-ranked Alabama (4/22) • That game was the Jags' fourth win in as many games against teams from the Southeastern Conference at Stanky Field, and Grichor went 10-for-20 with seven runs and four RBI in those games • Batted third for the first time and went 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored in Jags' win over Louisiana-Monroe (5/1) • Helped USA complete sweep of Warhawks when he delivered a two-out, three-run triple - the first of his career - on his way to going 2-for-5 with a stolen base and four RBI in televised game (5/2) • Notched only five-hit game by a Jag in 2009 when he went 5-for-6 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and two runs scored against Florida International (5/9).

Junior College (Navarro JC):  Played two seasons at Navarro (Texas) Junior College prior to joining USA • Led Navarro to 2008 Region XIV Conference regular season championship with 45-8 record • Went 71-for-196 for a .362 batting average in 53 games as a sophomore • Added 40 RBI and 26 stolen bases • Drew 48 walks while striking out 36 times • Added 10 doubles, three triples and two homers • Ranked second in conference with 69 runs scored and 26 steals • Hit .375 with 31 RBI and a team-high 27 steals as a freshman in 2007 • Was selected to All-Conference team both seasons, and was named to the Texas Junior College All-Star team • Was also a 2008 Academic All-American • Played summer ball for Brazos Valley Bombers of the Texas Collegiate League in 2008.

High School:  Named second-team all-district 14-5A by Houston Chronicle as a senior at Klein High School in Spring, Texas • Earned team's Outstanding Defensive Player award in 2005 and Outstanding Newcomer award in 2004, as voted on by teammates • Led team with 35 runs and was second with 46 hits as a senior • Helped Bearkats to 2006 regional finals • Also played two years of football.

Personal:  Born July 29, 1987 • First of two sons to Marty Grichor and Pam Stavros • Has a younger brother, Huntley • Sports Management major.
