Coach Kittrell on Matt Jackson – “Matt Jackson has a tremendous work ethic. He’s a lot like Eric Gonzalez, and we expect him to be one of our top pitchers. He moves the ball in and out, he’s got three pitches he can throw for strikes, and he really competes.”


Fall 2008:
  Made five appearances on the mound ¨ Posted a team-leading 2.37 ERA in 19.0 innings of work ¨ Recorded 18 strikeouts against just two walks for a team-best 9:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio ¨ Second on team with a 1.05 WHIP ¨ Allowed one earned run or less in four of five outings ¨ Went 3.0 innings, allowed two hits and no runs in second intrasquad game (9/20) ¨ In fifth intrasquad (9/27), allowed two earned runs on four hits in 3.0 innings ¨ Started and earned the win for Red team in game one of Red and Blue World Series (10/4) ¨ Allowed just one run on three hits in 5.0 innings ¨ Also posted seven strikeouts without a walk in that game ¨ Went 4.0 innings and allowed one run, but did not factor in decision in game four (10/9) ¨ In first game of doubleheader vs. Meridian (10/18), started and earned win with 4.0 innings and one run allowed ¨ Went at least four innings and allowed one earned run or less in each of last three starts ¨ Ranked fourth on team with 8.53 strikeouts per nine innings.

 

Junior College (Chipola CC):  Pitched one season for coach Jeff Johnson at Chipola Community College in Marianna, Fla. ¨ Transferred to Chipola after spending one season at Louisiana State ¨ Dominated the Panhandle conference, posting a perfect 10-0 record with two saves and a 2.61 ERA ¨ Pitched in 19 games, making 13 starts ¨ In 72.1 innings of work, posted 55 strikeouts against only 14 walks ¨ Helped Chipola to second consecutive state championship and appearance in JUCO World Series ¨ Was named to All-Region, All-Region Tournament, and All-Conference teams ¨ Also was honored as Panhandle Conference Pitcher of the Year.

2007 (LSU):  Played one season for the Tigers before transferring to Chipola CC 
¨ Recorded no decisions in 14 games, two of which were starts ¨ Team went 1-1 in his two starts ¨ Worked 32.0 innings and posted a 4.50 ERA.


High School:  Earned two letters playing for coach Glenn Maynor at Haughton High School in Haughton, La. 
¨ Went 3-3 as a junior, but missed much of the season to injury ¨ Posted a 6-2 record with six saves, and was an all-district infielder as a sophomore ¨ Played on American Legion 15 and 16-year-old national championship teams ¨ Was also a versatile football player, seeing time at wide receiver, quarterback and defensive back.

 

Personal:  Born Dec. 18, 1987 ¨ Middle of three sons to Robert and Cheryl Jackson ¨ Has an older brother, Chris, and a younger brother, Wesley ¨ Distant cousin Bo Brown played four years of professional baseball with the Atlanta Braves ¨ Hobbies are working out and muscle cars ¨ Nickname on the team is "Boss" ¨ Was recruited out of high school by LSU, Penn State, Arkansas, Baylor, and most Sun Belt Conference schools ¨ Favorite movie is "For the Love of the Game" ¨ Favorite team is the Atlanta Braves and favorite athlete is Chipper Jones ¨ Would like to meet Amanda Peet ¨ Dislikes lack of discipline and lack of organization ¨ Hopes to play professional baseball.
