Coach Kittrell on Dan Goldberg – “Dan Goldberg had the unfortunate injury situation, and he’s really worked hard. Nobody works harder than Dan in trying to rehab, and it would be a plus for us to be able to get him back on the mound.”

Fall 2008:  Sat out fall while rehabbing from shoulder surgery. 

2008 (Redshirt):  Redshirted the 2008 season after having shoulder surgery.

2007 (Junior):  Started the season as South Alabama’s Friday night starter ¨ Went 4-6 with an ERA of 5.34 ¨ Made 11 appearances, all starts ¨ Allowed 36 earned runs over 60.2 innings pitched ¨ Struck out 56 batters, just three shy of the team lead, and issued 24 walks ¨ Picked up win in first start of season vs. Mercer (2/16) ¨ Went 6.0 innings and allowed four run with five strikeouts in 7-5 Jags win ¨ Won again in second start with 7.0 innings and one earned run allowed vs. Michigan State (2/23) ¨ Against Connecticut (3/2), struck out nine batters and allowed two earned runs in 6.0 innings, but got a no-decision in 10-5 USA win ¨ Took a tough-luck loss with 6.0 innings and two earned runs allowed vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (3/9) ¨ Improved to 3-1 on the year with win vs. Arkansas State (3/16) ¨ Went 7.2 innings and allowed three runs in that game ¨ Got fourth win of season with a complete game vs. UALR (3/30) ¨ Allowed one run on eight hits and struck out eight batters against the Trojans ¨ Went 6.2 innings and allowed three runs against New Orleans (4/7), but took the loss as Jags fell 3-2.

Junior College (Saddleback CC):  Spent three years at Saddleback Community College in Mission Viejo, Calif. ¨ Lettered twice for the Gauchos ¨ As a sophomore in 2006, made 14 starts and went 8-1 with a 2.67 ERA over 84.1 innings of work ¨ Led team for second straight season with 73 strikeouts ¨ Threw the first no-hitter in Orange Empire Conference history (4/20) ¨ Posted a 6-3 record with an ERA of 3.56 as a freshman in 2005 ¨ Pitched in 15 games, seven of which were starts ¨ Worked 60.2 innings and threw one complete game ¨ Recorded a team-leading 87 strikeouts and walked just 13 batters.

High School:  Earned four baseball letters at Athenian High School in Danville, Calif. ¨ Was a first-team all-conference selection during his senior season (2003) ¨ Helped the Owls reach the playoffs in 2000 and 2003.

Personal:  Born Aug. 25, 1985 ¨ Full name is Dan Canfield Goldberg ¨ Has one younger brother, Michael ¨ Lists the Oakland A’s as his favorite sports team ¨ Chose USA over Fresno State, Louisville and Wake Forest.

Major:  Psychology
