HANKS NAMED TO SBC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

HANKS NAMED TO SBC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

MOBILE, Ala. - University of South Alabama right-hander D.D. Hanks was named to the 2010 Sun Belt Conference baseball all-tournament team after leading the Jaguars over eventual tournament champion Florida International.

Hanks was one of only two pitchers to earn all-tournament honors, after leading the Jaguars to a 7-1 win over FIU in the opening round of the tournament. He allowed just one run over 8.1 innings of work, and scattered nine hits while striking out eight and walking two.

The Sarland, Ala., native pitched into the ninth inning in seven games this season, six of which were SBC games. Hanks tossed six complete games and one shutout, and finished the season with a 10-6 record while posting a 4.28 ERA, to become the first South Alabama pitcher to record 10 wins in a season since P.J. Walters won 11 games in 2006.

Hanks struck out a career-high 14 batters in the Jags' conference opener at UALR this season, and also held a scoreless innings streak of 19.2 innings.

"D.D. is very deserving of this honor," USA head coach Steve Kittrell said. "He was exceptional on the mound for us this season, and pitched a great game in the opening round of the tournament. He was a bulldog on the mound all year, and really gave us a chance to win each time he pitched."
